Story- Full version

NM 2208 Story

There was once a little boy called Damien who wonders about everything under the Sun. Why is the moon round? Why is the Sun yellow? Why is the Sea blue? There were endless questions that no one in the village could answer. One day, he decided to find the answers himself. He packed his belongings into a little bag and off he goes, in search for an answer.

He walked further and further away from his village, till his house became like a tiny little dot. He walks alongside the riverbank, slowly yet happily. It was so hot in the noon that Damien sat down under a tree and began eating the favourite cake which he brought. Suddenly Damien heard a soft voice coming from the ground “Hey, are you looking for a part of you too?”

Damien looked down, and saw a little stone speaking to him. Damien lamented back: “Are you talking to me? What do you mean by looking for a part of me?” The stone replied “There was this evil man who threw me into the sea. I hit the rocks and fell unconscious and when I woke up I lost a part of me. Hence I began looking for my missing piece since then. When I saw you, I thought you were also looking for a missing thing.” Damien said that he was only looking for answers to his endless questions. Damien looked down at the stone, and realised that the stone has indeed a chipped off part. He decided to bring the little stone with him. And so, Damien walked on, with the little stone in his pocket.

Along the way, they saw a lot of chipped off stones but none could fit the little stone perfectly. There were big pieces, small pieces, round pieces but none that could fit.

Finally, Damien found a piece of stone that looks like it could fit and it did. Damien was overjoyed and felt happy for the little stone. However, the little stone said it felt weird that the missing piece is back in place. The little stone did not like being a whole once again. And so, Damien threw away the newly found piece of stone and the little stone had a gaping hole once again. Despite that, the little stone smiled and seemed to look contented.

The search for his missing piece had ended. Although he had found the answer and his missing piece but he realised that he was happier being incomplete. Upon knowing all these, Damien realised that his quest for answers may end up in a similar way. Answers may not be the most important thing, it is the process of finding the answers to your question that is important.

Damien left the little stone and went back to his village. He missed his family, friends and his mum’s cooking. Damien believes that when he grows up and goes to school, he may get the answers to his questions. However whenever Damien feels bored, he will still go down to the riverbank and chat for hours.
